Classification systems come and go, some more memorable than others. Without such systems it is not possible to compare like with like and so it must be conceded that they are necessary, although I personally find them difficult to commit to memory and somewhat tedious. An evaluation of the ‘Accordion’ severity grading technique from Poland, analysing the outcomes in 500 patients operated upon for carpal tunnel syndrome, shows that this system has its uses, but is not infallible. I am relieved that I do not have to remember it!
