This review reports the techniques that have been and are still used to repair acute injuries in this difficult area. The review does not end with a ‘best buy’ in the tradition of a consumer magazine, concluding that there is no guarantee of a successful outcome whichever technique is employed. The authors seem to favour the use of bone anchors however, which despite their great cost (£180 approx) do seem to have fewer complications. Buttons certainly are more generally available, although now must be considered old fashioned…maybe in the same way that the zip fastener and Velcro have replaced buttons in other fields.
