This second edition textbook is an accompaniment for the extensive video atlas that is available online through Expert Consult (access included with the book). In it, there are over 70 high definition videos – a total of five hours of viewing time – covering a comprehensive list of essential surgical procedures such as upper and lower blepharoplasty, ptosis correction, open and endoscopic brow lifting, periorbital reconstruction, eyelid malposition repairs, endoscopic lacrimal surgery, botulinum toxin use and advanced orbital surgery techniques.

Each clip is unusually well presented, bright, clear and well narrated. The editing is excellent, such that the relevant components of the procedures are clearly illustrated whilst unnecessary content has been cut or abbreviated to keep the clips relatively short and punchy. The book too, despite its size, explains each procedure clearly and concisely with numerous, well labelled photographs that relate to the key steps. In many cases, several alternative surgical approaches are presented and the indications and rationale for selecting from amongst these procedures is discussed. Furthermore, each chapter finishes with a list of potential complications and tips on how to avoid them.

The majority, but by no means all, of the book is relevant to plastic surgery consultants and trainees and not only to the dedicated ophthalmic or oculoplastic surgeon. For those wishing to gain a much better understanding of oculoplastic surgery techniques, a subject that is perhaps poorly taught in general plastic surgery training, this is a highly commendable source and worthwhile investment.
