This is an excellent book for people who are just entering into cosmetic medicine or those who may need a refresher, as it contains clear concise information on botulinum toxins and dermal fillers.
The book provides an introduction to botulism toxin along with a history. It also follows a similar format for dermal fillers. Following on from this there is anatomy of the bones, muscles, superficial and deeper fat pads as well as the skin layers and nerves.
The book then moves into more treatment specific sections with an introduction to both botulinum toxins and dermal fillers and finishing off with a complications section. It includes a practical skills section alongside covering the theory for important aspects such as communication skills and consultations which are essential for medical practitioners.
The book does not include more advanced injection techniques and therefore this would require further reading by practitioners, and whilst certain complications are covered, there are some where the book does not practically advise how to treat, therefore further training and reading would be recommended.
This book would be appropriate for doctors, dentists and nurses looking to learn more about cosmetics. Although this would be a great book for those just starting out in their cosmetic journey it may not be appropriate for those wanting a more comprehensive view and information on topics such as polynucleotides, skin boosters, skincare and chemical peels.
