We were delighted to catch up with Frédéric Braccini, Facial Plastic Surgeon based in France, about this career highlights and his involvement in the upcoming Corsica Medical Summit.
Can you tell us a little bit about what led you into the field of facial plastic surgery and what have been the highlights so far?
I have been involved in the world of medicine and facial aesthetic surgery for more than 25 years with a significant practice but also a part in teaching and in the organisation of masterclasses and conferences.
In particular, I co-founded the Advanced Society of Aesthetic & Plastic Medicine and Surgery (SAMCEP) and am currently Scientific Director for the Function and Aesthetic Masterclass School (FAM) and Secretary of the French Society for Facial Plastic Surgery (SFCPEF).
I also coordinate the Medical Aesthetics Awards in France and am part of the scientific committee of the AMWC Congress in Monaco.
One of my personal highlights has been the work on medical rhinoplasty in 2008 with the first worldwide publication and the first book with my friend Doctor Alessio Redaelli. Medical rhinoplasty has completely changed the management of rhinoplasty in general.
Who has inspired you in your career and why?
Very early on, I was attracted to facial plastic surgery, particularly rhinoplasty. I also had the chance to practise sculpture and get closer to Philippe Faraut (USA) and Fredange (France) who are two anatomical sculptors who inspired me a lot. The satisfaction of patients who benefit from cosmetic medicine or surgery is also an important driver in my practice.
What has been the best piece of advice that you have received in your career and what advice would you offer to those following in your footsteps?
The best advice to follow is that of work and performance. You can never be complacent when you are a healthcare professional. Medicine is the ‘school of modesty’. Only work guarantees efficiency and performance.
What do you think have been the most exciting developments in plastic surgery in recent years?
As previously mentioned, one of the most significant points for facial aesthetics is the use of fillers to sculpt the nose. The results are spectacular in just a few minutes. Minimally invasive surgery is today the benchmark in plastic surgery in general.
The practice of aesthetic medicine and injectables has been especially marked by the safety and effectiveness of injected products. The introduction of threads and considerable progress in devices have allowed aesthetic medicine to take a very effective place in addition to plastic surgery, the procedures of which have become minimally invasive.
There has also been an important development marked by the desire of young people (Millennials) to seek injectable treatments throughout their lives, often driven by the influence of social media, television, cinema and celebrities.
We have developed an innovative and demanding concept in the practice of aesthetic medicine. This is the ‘less is more” concept in order to optimise our practice, limit possible side effects, and respect facial emotions.

You are the Scientific Director for the Corsica Medical Summit (CMS) taking place in June next year – can you tell us the themes and potential highlights of the event?
CMS is a unique event and we expect around 1000 participants for the 2024 edition. It is an international Euro-Mediterranean congress, being held in a magical place, Corsica Island. The beautiful city of Ajaccio is a particularly suitable place for a large conference. We have many industry partners who support us and I also want to thank them here.
The congress is structured with three main pillars:
- An auditorium for face and neck surgery (ORL-CORSICA)
- An auditorium for aesthetic medicine (ESTHETIQUE CORSICA)
- An auditorium for exclusive conferences on botulinum toxin with therapeutic and aesthetic indications (TOXIN CORSICA).
This year we also have a joint event with SOPREF and conferences on oculoplastic surgery and aesthetic eye medicine (ICOP). The congress is a ‘very practical’ event for all the participants!
And finally, if you have any spare time, how do you like to relax?
These moments are rare. I find comfort with my family and escape when I can to practise freediving and spearfishing. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time for myself!
