The Vascular Birthmarks Foundation’s (VBF) Free Laser Clinics are aimed at delivering much-needed access to early intervention for individuals and families living with a vascular birthmark, anomaly and / or related syndrome (VBARS) in the United States and abroad. In 2023, VBF already hosted three VBF Free Laser Clinics and a VBF Free Ultrasound Clinic in the United States, which helped to provide access to an appropriate diagnosis and treatment to more than 40 individuals affected by VBARS.
Now, the foundation is gearing up for the 2023 Free Laser and Ultrasound Clinic in Athens, Greece, in June; the 2023 VBF Annual Conference and Super Clinic in New York City in October; and the VBF Italy 2023 Super Clinic in Milan, Italy, in December.
The 2023 Free Laser and Ultrasound Clinic in Greece is sponsored by Barr Linton and his family, and will take place at the EVA Clinic with co-host Stavros Tombris, MD, PhD, DDS, Director of the EVA Clinic. The event is open to adults and children, and pre-qualified patients will receive free laser treatments, free ultrasounds, free Sturge-Weber Syndrome (SWS) consultations and free Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS) consultations. This free clinic will provide help and hope to about 30 people living with a VBARS from an estimated 10 countries. No matter what is happening in the world, the need for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan does not stop.
The treatments will be performed using Candela’s Vbeam Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) which is considered the gold standard for the laser treatment of port wine stains and other vascular anomalies in infants and children, as well as adults. The event will be preceded by the VBF Port Wine Stain Birthmark Research Conference, which is a continuation of the VBF/ASLMS Laser Guidelines project that was announced at the ASLMS Meeting in Phoenix, AZ.
Experts in attendance will include Linda Rozell-Shannon, PhD, President and Founder of the VBF; Roy G Geronemus, MD, Director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York; Giacomo Colletti, MD, DDS, VBF Italy Medical Director and VBF Europe Co-Medical Director, and Associate Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery at UniMORE; Milton Waner, MD, MB, BCh(Wits.), FCS(SA), Director of the Vascular Birthmark Institute of New York and Paediatric Facial Plastic Surgeon; Stavros Tombris, MD, PhD, DDS, Director of the EVA Clinic; and Anne Comi, MD, Paediatric Neurologist, Clinical Scientist, and Director of the Hunter Nelson Sturge-Weber Center at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Professor of Neurology and Paediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and other VBF Experts.
