In November, Changing Faces were excited to announce the launch of their new GP resource, 'Psychosocial management and assessment in primary care'.
They also welcome your feedback on a possible skin camouflage training course for health professionals, and have news of a forthcoming Peer Group Chat cohort.
Launch: Primary Care Training Resource
The Changing Faces' exciting new online education resource for GPs, and other Health Care Professionals, is there to to help them familiarise themselves with issues of anxiety and distress that may accompany having a scar, mark or condition that affects a person’s appearance.
Developed by Clinical Psychologist and former Changing Faces Trustee Professor Andrew Thompson, and with support from the Primary Care Dermatology Society (PCDS), the resource introduces psychodermatology and has background information on the types of psychosocial issues and distress most often experienced by patients with dermatological conditions.
It also includes information on how to assess for the presence of these, and onward referral pathways. Although the focus is on dermatology, patients with any form of visible difference, such as scars, burns, limb difference and craniofacial conditions will benefit from psychological support.
The resource is interactive and flexible and also includes videos from our campaigners about the effect of having a visible difference on wellbeing, and how HCP have supported them.
The whole resource can be accessed here, and will soon be published on the PCDS website. It is best accessed through a desktop PC.
